The majority of the focus on the coming summer transfer window could be on whether or not Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi will leave the Spanish club or not. The Argentine attacker has drawn a large chunk of speculation the entire season and there are serious questions about his long-term future at the Spanish club, including whether he will be playing at the Camp Nou ahead of next season.
The situation has caused a certain Argentine journalist, Christian Martin, who works for ESPN, to reveal that his 33-year-old compatriot could well leave his boyhood club, citing that he could eventually join David Beckham’s club Inter Miami in the United States Major League Soccer and play for two seasons.
The journalist predicted that Messi could be set to call time on his European career and the next plan could be for him to make a switch to the MLS side where he may agree to, and sign a short-term deal that would see him still play football for the next two years or more.
The belief around Barcelona at the moment is that Messi could well sign a new contract, and the club’s new president Joan Laporta promised fans that their captain will be extending his contract soon even though the player himself has not contributed to the topic.
